The Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly (Ovia North East I), Hon. Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian has hailed Nigerians and all the heroes of democracy who sacrificed their lives, energy and resources to restore civilian rule after long years of military dictatorship.
A former chairman of the Edo State Law Review Commission, Hon. Aiguobarueghian noted that the gains recorded since the return to democracy in 1999, were made possible by the sacrifice of these heroes of democracy.
While paying tributes to Chief Moshood Abiola, who won the watershed 1993 presidential election, which was however annulled by former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, he said that 27 years of uninterrupted democracy has renewed the hope and confidence of Nigerians for a brighter future.
He added: “Democracy only thrives when the people trust it. If we want roads, schools, hospitals, and jobs, we must first defend free and credible elections. Quality representation begins with a ballot that counts.
"A government that fears the ballot will respect the people. That is the democracy Ovia people deserve, and that is the democracy Nigeria must deliver.”
Presently running for the House of Representatives on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (RRNDC) for Ovia Federal Constituency, he said that democracy is not just a system of government, it is a promise
Hon. Aiuobarueghian has attracted several projects that add real value to his constituents.
While he held sway as chairman of the Law Review Commission, he was saddled with reviewing and repealing obsolete laws of defunct Bendel State now applicable in Edo State.
iHs election to the Edo State House of Assembly on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received overwhelming support, largely due to his deep grassroots connection and proven competence but he however defected to the NDC due to the lingering crisis in the PDP.
Hon. Aiguobarueghian commended the leaders of the NDC for providing him the platform to aspire to the green chambers of the National Assembly and assured his constituents of worthy and effective representation
Besides, the minority leader has restored hope to children from poor backgrounds, who were at risk of dropping out of school, through scholarship grants and the renovation of public schools.
