CRPP Laments Audacious Kidnapping At Benin Vegetable Market, Tasks Okpebholo On Insecurity

Worried by the rising cases of  insecurity in Edo State, the Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has called on Governor Monday Okpebholo to take proactive steps to tackle kidnapping, cultism and armed banditry across the three senatorial district of the state.

A joint statement Wednesday in Benin City by Dr. Samson Isibor and the national secretary, Hon. Nkama Waribe, lamented that the June 14, 2026 attack on Vegetable Market, during which a lady was kidnapped was most embarrassing, considering the fact that the hoodlums operated unchallenged for close to 30 minutes at a distance of less than 500 meters away from the Government House, and about 50 meters away from Aideyan Police Division.

Isibor and Waribe said that they are alarmed that armed criminals could be so daring and emboldened to the point of operating right inside the heart of Edo State capital city in broad daylight.

He said: "Fear and apprehension have now taken over the entire state, as kidnappers, cultists and armed bandits have ravaged the three senatorial districts, including Esanland, the ancestral home of Governor Okpebholo. Investors are now on the run because of the insecurity in the state."

The chairman and the scribe emphasized that the pertinent question that naturally comes up is what Governor Okpebholo has to show for the close to ₦1 billion he receives every month as security vote.

The duo said that instead of putting the huge sum of money to work to secure the state, the governor is busy campaigning for 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the forthcoming presidential election.

Isibor and Waribe noted that to worsen the situation, operatives of the so-called Edo Security Network (ESN), who the people are reportedly being paid with tax payers' money and are supposed to be patrolling major cities are busy extorting money from motorists at checkpoints.

They further charged: "He is doing nothing to protect the lives and properties of the citizens, have suggested to him severally steps to take to reduce the advancing marauders, terrorist into Edo State, but this governor never listened to us."

They continued: "For the umpteenth time, we call on Governor Okpebholo to take wake up from his slumber, take proactive steps to check the rising insecurity across the state.

"We are tired of his lamentation and messages of commiseration to the traumatized families of victims."
