Residents of Watertanker Road, Auchi Heave Sighs of Relief As Regional Development Ministry Tackles Erosion

The Minister of Regional Development, Alhaji Abubakar Momoh has reiterated the determination of the federal government to complete the Auchi Erosion.
Alhaji Momoh who spoke during the inspection of ongoing work on the erosion control which is being handled by the Regional Development Ministry commended the contractor for doing a good job.
The massive ecological disaster on Watertanker Road, off Warrake Road in Auchi, started from being "just little holes" but kept expanding during the rains until they turned to trenches and deep gullies.
For residents of the neighborhood in the commercial and political headquarters of Edo North, every dark cloud which is supposed to bring forth a mighty outpouring of rain is cause for deep despair and trepidation as rampaging gully erosion is threatening to swallow their homes in its yawning belly.
Landed properties and farmlands worth several millions of Naira have been washed away by the rampaging erosion which stretch is about 50 metre deep and stretched for about two kilometres.
Auchi ErosionSeveral people have abandoned their homes as a result of the erosion disaster, which they initially tried to control but it just didn't work out.
The sad sight of landlords and tenants on Watertanker Road fleeing their homes with the coming of the rains may soon be a thing of the past as the intensify efforts to reclaim the washed away land.
The Minister assured that the ministry will see to the conclusion of the project which started late last year, noting that dredging machines have been deployed to recover the lost ground.
He said: "Auchi erosion project is on course. It was awarded by my ministry and is under the supervision of the Regional Development Ministry. The erosion has done a lot of havoc and want to destroy the entire community but thank God we have intervene. Work is ongoing there."
