All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives aspirant for Etsako Federal Constituency, Mr. Johnson Oghuma has reeled out his scorecard during his stint between 2017 and 2023.
Hon. Oghuma, who is seeking re-election for a third term recalled that in a landmark development for education and regional advancement, the green Chambers had approved the Conference Committee Report on a bill seeking to upgrade the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi into a full-fledged University of Technology.
The former lawmaker explained that he sponsored the bill, titled “A Bill for an Act to provide for the Establishment of Federal University of Technology, Auchi, Edo State", noting that his commitment to educational growth and human capital development continues to yield impactful results.
He noted that the approval marked a significant step toward expanding access to quality higher education, particularly in the fields of science, engineering, and technology, adding that the proposed Federal University of Technology, Auchi, is expected to serve as a hub for innovation, research, and skills development, positioning Edo State—and indeed Nigeria—at the forefront of technological advancement.
He said: "For decades, Auchi Polytechnic has stood as a symbol of academic excellence, producing skilled graduates who have contributed meaningfully across various sectors. Its elevation to a university status not only recognizes its legacy but also opens new opportunities for academic expansion, increased funding, and broader global partnerships.
Hon. Oghuma noted that his sponsorship of the bill underscores his dedication to delivering tangible dividends of democracy to his constituents.
He continued: "By championing this initiative, I have demonstrated visionary leadership and a clear understanding of the role education plays in driving sustainable development."
According to him, his strong conviction that education is an effective tool for fighting poverty informed his contributions with his colleagues in establishing Edo University Iyamho; College of Agriculture Agenebode during his days at the Edo State House of Assembly.
Hon. Oghuma further said that the same drive brought the Federal College of Forest Resources Management, Fugar which had already produced National Diplomas (ND) and in the process of producing her first National Higher Diplomas (HND in their specialized field of studies).
He said that the establishment of the Federal University of Technology, Auchi will boost the local economy, create jobs, and attract investments, while also empowering the youth with relevant knowledge and skills for the modern world.
Hon. Oghuma emphasized: "As stakeholders and citizens celebrate this milestone, it stands as a testament to what Hon. Johnson Oghuma's purposeful representation can achieve. Indeed, this is a proud moment for Etsako Federal Constituency and Edo State and a significant stride toward a brighter, knowledge-driven future."
