Edo High Court Grants Interim Injunction to Edo HOSTCOM, Restrains Rival Group From Inauguration

A Benin, Edo State High Court presided over by Justice Mary Itsueli has restrained members of Registered Trustees of Host Communities of Nigeria Oil and Gas (HOSTCOM) from conducting, organizing, supervising, participating in, or in any manner whatsoever giving effect to the l inauguration of a self constituted executive of the Edo State chapter of the association.

The purported inauguration was scheduled for today, Saturday, April 25, 2026 in Benin City. 

In suit No: B/276/2026, Kenneth Aduwaye, Prince Odion Abumenre, Dr. Osasu Isibor and Comrade Andrew Nosa Oyegue for themselves and on behalf of members of the Edo State chapter of HOSTCOM are challenging the legality of Registered Trustees of HOSTCOM reportedly headed by one Mr. Robinson Aikpitanyi, Patrick Erumusele, Victor Okunoghae, Stanley Osayande, High Chief Benjamin Tamaraneibi, Godday Koru and Kenneth Aigbe, Odiase Glory.

In a motion ex-parte by Mr. A O. Asenoguan, counsel to the claimants, they argued that the said executive of the chapter did not emerge from any valid election, conducted in accordance with the constitution, zoning arrangement and electoral guidelines of Registered Trustees of HOSTCOM, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

Justice Itsueli ruled: "I have given deep thought and consideration of this application before me. I have read the affidavit of urgency, and I am satisfied that there are sufficient grounds to grant the order as prayed.

"Consequently, I hereby grant an order of Interim Injunction restraining the defendants, whether by themselves, their agents, privies, servants, officers, assigns, or any person or authority acting through or in concert with them from conducting, organizing, supervising participating in or in any manner whatsoever giving effect to the purported inauguration of a self constituted executive of the Edo State chapter of the 9th defendant

(HOSTCOM) scheduled for Saturday April 25, 2026 at Imaguero College Hall, Sapele Road or at any other venue whatsoever, and from parading, presenting, holding out, or representing themselves as the lawful or recognized executive of the state chapter, not having emerged from any valid election conducted in accordance with the constitution and electoral guidelines of the 9th defendant, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice."

The trial judge thereafter the case adjourned to May 18, 2026 for hearing of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.
