The Director General of Edo State Diaspora Agency, Dr. Loretta Ogboror-Okor has made a passionate appeal to Edo indigenes in the diaspora to come and invest heavily in the Heartbeat of the Nation State.

Dr. Ogboror-Okor, who spoke in Benin City said that the country receives an estimated $7 billion in remittances annually from Nigerians in the diaspora.

The director general said that out of this huge amount of money, Edo State, which is among the top five recipients of remittances, gets a significant chunk of the money.

She said that it's in recognition of the significant contribution of Edo diaspora to the fortunes of Western Union money transfer section of one of the old generation banks that makes it to sponsor the annual Igue Festival in Benin Kingdom.

While conceding that kidnappings for ransom and the general state of insecurity in Nigeria is a problem, Dr. Ogboror-Okor however advised Edo people living abroad not to be deterred but come back home to invest.

Less than one year after she was appointed by Governor Monday Okpebholo, the director general said that amongst several achievements, the agency has been able to set up diaspora desks in several foreign countries in order to harness the potentials of Edo people and sell the state to the world.

The former governorship aspirant expressed the readiness of the agency to act as a guide to Edo diaspora and those willing to come back home to invest, adding that with Governor Okpebholo creating an enabling environment for them, their investments are, no doubt, in safe hands.

She said: "Edo is ready for investment from its diaspora. Edo people living abroad should come back home to invest. All over the word, the diaspora is a good source of investment. Mexico, India, the Philippines, Lebanon and other countries get billions from their diaspora. Here in Edo, we're ready for our Diaspora.

"There are lots of opportunities here in Edo State. Investors will not regret coming back home to invest. Edo Diaspora can help to leapfrog the state's economy and help to achieve the SHINE Agenda of Governor Okpebholo."
