For his significant contributions to governance and legislative development in Edo State, former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Frank Okiye has been honoured with a Public Service Excellence Award by the Department of Social Sciences, Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma.
The award ceremony which took place at the opening of the 5th Annual International Conference on Monday, 13th April, 2026 was also, in a way, a celebration of the Edo State Lottery Regulatory Commission, Executive Chairman's dedication to community development and principled leadership during his stint in the legislative chambers.
Hon. Okiye, a distinguished political and social figure was lionized for fostering good governance, upholding legislative integrity, and supporting community development initiatives, particularly within the Edo State framework.
Elated, the executive chairman of Edo Lottery Commission, who highlighted the role of education in shaping his public service journey, expressed gratitude to the Faculty of Social Sciences and the state owned university for the award.
He noted that the award was a call to continue striving for excellence and to support the development of institutions like AAU, which he described as a foundation for many leaders in the state.
He said: "I want to use this opportunity to commend the good work that Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo has been doing to reposition the university in order for it to be able to compete globally."
Hon. Okiye assured the university community of the governor's commitment to do more for the development of the tertiary institution, not just in infrastructure but also in the area of human capacity development and research.
The ceremony concluded with accolades from university officials, who took turns to commend the ex-speaker for his sterling qualities and as a role model for students and upcoming politicians.
