A leading Edo State House of Assembly aspirant for Orhiommwon South Constituency in the forthcoming 2027 General Elections, Hon. Bright Guobadia has paid glowing tribute to Nigerian women as they joined other women in the world to mark this years International Women's Day celebration.
In a statement weekend in Benin. City and made available to journalists, Hon Guobadia of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) said Nigerian women have demonstrated that they are not only peacemakers but also home builders, resourceful and creative in their various fields of human endeavours.
He said the historical day which is celebrated every March 8 brings to the fore the need to eradicate all forms of religious and cultural barriers; discriminatory practices against women and the girl child; violent crimes including rape and female genital mutilation (FGM), which are infringement on the fundamental rights of women.
Hon. Guobadia, the chairman and CEO of Ultimate Serene Hotels and Apartments, said if elected, he will table the plight of women especially in rural areas on the floor of the House, with a view to getting government's attention and corporate bodies to address these issues.
The House of Assembly hopeful stated that his decision to seek for elective position is not for personal aggrandizement, but to add value to the lives of rural dwellers and change the narratives, adding that the oil wells in Orhiommwon South and other natural resources in the constituency are enough to enhance the standard of living of the people, if proceeds from these resources are better utilize for their betterment.
While wishing Nigerian women in general and Orhiommwon South Constituency women in particular a fruitful and peaceful international Women's Day celebration, Hon. Guobadia specially commended Edo women for their invaluable contributions to social, economic, cultural, political developments and child support.
