A group, Goods Drivers and Taxi-Cabs Owners Association of Nigeria (GATAN) has reiterated its determination to collaborate with the Nigeria Army to tackle security challenges in Edo State.
A statement in Benin City by the Edo State chairman of the association, Comrade Odion Prince Abumenre after a meeting with the commander of the Nigeria Army 4 Brigade Command, Benin City, Brig-Gen. AO Balogun, he said that GATAN will partner with the military to address insecurity in Edo State.
Hon. Abumenre told Brig-Gen. Balogun that the association will live up to its aims and objectives by engaging in information gathering for security agencies and the government general in order to ensure the security of lives and properties of Edo people.
He assured: "GATAN members operating within Benin metropolis and rural areas will compliment the efforts of the army in tackling security challenges through information gathering."
Recalled that Hon. Abumenre was appointed as the Edo State chairman of GATAN on December 11, 2025 after a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC).
A joint statement by the national chairman and the secretary, Hon. Akinwumi Olatunji and Mr. Odewole Lookman respectively, informed members that all decisions in respect of Edo State chapter of GATAN should kindly be directed to the newly constituted executive council under the leadership of Comrade Abumenre.
While soliciting the cooperation and collaboration of the members in the choice of the new state chairman, Olatunji and Lookman said that the decision of the NEC was in conformity with the articles of the constitution.
