The Accord Party has disassociated the party from a statement credited to one Mr. Chris Imumolen criticizing Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for defecting to the party.
A statement by the national coordinator, Rev. (Dr.) Isaac Adeniyi slammed Imumolen for describing Governor Adeleke's action as a "back door entry” and invalid.
While disassociating the party from the reckless statements of Imumolen, Rev. Adeniyi noted that in trying to display his ignorance to challenge the legitimacy of the Osun State governor's victory at the Accord Party's primary, Imomulen hurriedly went to a closet to organize a Kangaroo primary elsewhere in Osun State unknown to the public, proclaiming himself as National Chairman and his disguised National Working Committee members.
He emphasized: "The actions of Imumolen are illegal, null and void. The general public is warned against associating with him as he and his group do not represent Accord Party in any capacity whatsoever. We equally call on INEC to ignore this renegade group.
"Furthermore, Accord Party commend INEC for recognizing Governor Adeleke as the legitimate candidate of Accord Party duly elected as the consensus candidate of our party."
Recalled that Governor Adeleke was duly registered at his ward in Ede as a member of the party following his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after which he collected the party's nomination form.
He insisted that the party's primary was conducted and witnessed by the independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials and was subsequently elected as Accord Party flag bearer for the 2026 Governorship Election in the state.
The coordinator reminded that the opposition party's constitution also gives the party ticket to a sole candidate in the absence of other contestant.
"We congratulate Governor Adeleke for emerging as the governorship candidate of Accord party. Those sponsoring Imumolen know for sure that Governor Adeleke will emerge victorious in the forthcoming Osun Hovernorship election.
"The other political parties should put their leaking umbrella and the uncoordinated scattered broom in Osun State in order."
