A member of the House of Representatives representing Egor/ Ikpoba-Okha, Edo State, Mr. Murphy Osaro Omoruyi has resigned from the Labour Party (LP).
In a letter of resignation addressed to the Chairman, Labour Party Ward 10, Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, a copy of which was made available to journalists in Benin City, the federal lawmaker wrote that his decision to exit the party was with immediate effect.
Dated 30th December 2025, the letter read in part: "You will recall my consistent commitment and loyalty to the party over the years, even at a time when majority of members particularly those elected alongside me, had exited the party.
"My decision to remain steadfast during that period earned me the sobriquet, "The Last Man Standing", a testament to my belief in the ideal and vision the party once represented."
Mr. Omoruyi continued: "Due to prolonged internal crises, leadership division, and unresolved disagreements that have continued to plague the party for several years, I have reached the difficult conclusion that the Labour Party no longer represents a credible platform for advancing the collective aspiration of moving Nigeria forward."
He said that he arrived at the decision to quit the opposition party after a wide consultation with family, friends, political associates, and members of the Obidient Movement who played a significant and invaluable roles in his political trajectory.
The lawmaker, however dropped hint of plans to explore other political options that will enable him, alongside other well-meaning Nigerians, to effectively challenge the inefficient political order and work towards building a new Nigeria that truly serves the interests of all citizens.
Mr. Omoruyi, who had on Wednesday, December 31st, 2025, accompanied the presidential candidate of LP in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi to Enugu where he formally joined the African Democratic Party (ADC), expressed his profound gratitude to the LP, Egor Ward 10 Chairman, and his executives for their support and wished the party well in its future pursuits.
