UNIBEN Holds Convocation Ceremony, Records 198 First Class As Regional Minister Momoh, Prof. Osaghae Set to Deliver Lectures

A total of 198 graduands of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) will be awarded first class degrees in different disciplines at the school's 51st Convocation ceremony scheduled for Nvember 28, 2025, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Edoba Omoregie (SAN) has disclosed.
Prof. Omoregie, who spoke at a pre-55th Founders Day and 51st Convocation Ceremonies press conference in Benin City said that 4,217 graduands will be awarded Second Class Upper division just as 7,928 bagged Second Class Lower division while 578 have Third Class.
The vice chancellor noted that a total of 14,083 graduands for the 2024/2025 academic session shall be conferred with first degree certificates this year, a phenomenal number, which is higher than all previous number of graduands since the inception of the institution, adding:
"The 2025 Convocation activities will climax with the award of higher degrees of PhD, Masters and Postgraduate Diplomas on Saturday 29th November.
"The up-grading of the Postgraduate School to College of Postgraduate Studies is a strategic move at repositioning the university as an institution both for advanced academic training and an innovative capacity-building epicentre."
Continuing, Prof. Edoba said that on Monday, 24th November, 2025, there will be a Founders’ Day Lecture titled “Reforms For a Shared Prosperity" to be delivered by an illustrious alumnus and Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh.
According to the vice chancellor, the convocation lecture, “Making Our Universities Great”, which is billed for Friday, 28th November, 2025, will feature a former Vice Chancellor of Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, and currently the director general of the Nigeria Institute of International Affairs, Lagos, Prof. Eghosa Osaghae.
He lamented that no employment had been done in the school in the past ten years, noting that the institution's recent announcement for employment received 20,000 applications for just 500 vacancies.
Prof. Omoregie lauded President Bola Tinubu for establishing the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to accelerate students' access to funding tertiary education.
In the last one year, he said that the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) has also approved five new faculties and 17 new departments for the school.
