Ahead of 2025 Convocation, UNIBEN Chancellor Hosts Governing Council in Gboko, Benue State 9

Ahead of the 51st Convocation and 55th Founders' Day Ceremonies, the Chairman and some members of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) Governing Council have visited the Institution’s Chancellor, and Chairman, Benue State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Majesty, Orcivirigh Prof. James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, CFR, in his Palace in Gboko.

The high- powered delegation was led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Prof. Shuaibu Umaru.

Prof. Umaru said they were in Gboko to felicitate with the traditional ruler, pay homage and to formally intimate him with the programmes of the convocation ceremony which starts Sunday, November 23, 2025 with the Founders' Day Interfaith Service. 

Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, SAN, said although he had visted the monarch last year after his emergence as Vice Chancellor, he thought it proper to seek his royal blessings afresh and as Chairman of Convocation, to apprise him with details of the event. 

The Chancellor thanked the delegation from the university for the heartwarming visit. 

He eulogised the Pro-Chancellor and Vice Chancellor for their sterling leadership and commended the cordial relationship between the Governing Council and Management of the school. 

The Tor Tiv, who pledged his continuing support, congratulated the Prof. Edoba (SAÑ) again on his well deserved appointment and expressed satisfaction with the excellent work that he is doing. 

 Members of Council on the delegation  were Mr. Samson Osagie and Hon. Rufai Ahmed Chanchangi as well as the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr. Ademola Bobola.

Highpoint of the visit was the decoration of the vice-chancellor with the complete traditional regalia of the Tiv nation.
