Edo NUJ Correspondents' Chapel Hails the Return of Afegbua as Information Commissioner, Says Appointment Well-deserved

More messages of congratulations have continued to pour in following the swearing in of Prince Kassim Afegbua as the Commissioner for Information and Strategy by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
In a joint congratulatory statement by the duo of Comrades Patrick Ochoga and Patrick Ahanor, chairman and secretary of Correspondents' Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council respectively, they described Prince Afegbua's appointment as well-deserved and a clear recognition of his outstanding commitment to public service and professionalism.
The chairman and the scribe expressed confidence in the ability of the new information commissioner to bring renewed energy, innovation, and integrity to the task of managing the state’s information architecture and deepening government and media relations.
They added: "As a critical partner in governance, the Correspondents' Chapel is open to continued cooperation and constructive engagement with the Ministry of Information and Strategy to advance credible reportage, transparent communication geared towards the overall development agenda of the state government."
The statement continued: "We look forward to a fruitful partnership that will enhance public enlightenment, civic participation, and responsible journalism in Edo State."
Recalled that the new commissioner, a scion of the popular Afegbua Royal Family of the cement factories community of Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, first had a stint as Commissioner for Information and Orientation following his inauguration on February 1, 2016 by former Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
Born on August 23, 1969, Prince Afegbua was also media spokesman to former military strongman, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida.
