Determined to ease some of the challenges faced by doctors due to the limited availability of essential medical supplies in Nigeria, a consultant colorectal and general surgeon and clinical director at NAAS General Hospital, Republic of Ireland, Dr. Emmanuel Eguare Tuesday in Benin City, Edo State donated a variety of medical equipment and consumables to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
Speaking at the presentation, Dr. Eguare, a distinguished Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), commended medical experts at UBTH for their steadfast commitment and resilience.
He acknowledged their continued successes in achieving noteworthy results despite existing limitations.
The consultant pledged his continued support to the hospital, noting that the donation marks the first of many similar gestures to come.
He urged authorities at the hospital to make the very best use of the donated items to the maximum benefit of the patients.
Dr. Eguare said: "The hospital is close to my heart. This is the very beginning of my collaboration. We can do a lot together. We need to embrace the internet and virtual platforms to boost our partnership."
Receiving the items on behalf of the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, the chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Prof. Stanley Okugbo expressed appreciation to the donor for his generosity and exceptional dedication in supporting UBTH's core mission.
Present at the event were medical professionals, including Prof. Clement Osime, vonsultant surgical oncologist, and Dr. Irowa Omorodion, consultant general surgeon.
The comprehensive inventory of donated medical supplies include: laparoscopic consumables (scratch pads), circular staplers, auto suture vamps, laryngeal masks (airways), laparoscopic graspers, armoured endotracheal tubes and PDS sutures.
Other medical equipment donated are biopsy punches, high concentration masks, scalpels, T.E.D. stockings, arterial cannulas, blood pressure monitoring kits with accessories, proctoscopes, sigmoidoscopes, suction tubes, engine tubes, drainage catheters, transchosomic catheters, Mini tracheotomy sets, steam blades, needle holders, fibre plaster, laparoscopic caps and mesh (various sizes and brands).
