For Providence TV International (PTVI), Benin City, Edo State, it has been one eventful year of entertaining, educating and informing its numerous viewers spread across the globe.
Despite the odds as a result of the present stark economic realities of the situation in the country, the chairman/chief executive officer, Dr. Emmanuel Egharevba said that the station has managed to survive, thrive and was poised to reach higher.
Dr. Egharevba, who spoke at the first anniversary of the digital television station in Benin remarked that PTVI was a game changer right from the onset when it started with programmes and production formats that created a new impetus for television broadcasting in the country.
The founder said that the goal of the channel has always been to make a difference in the way people perceived television broadcasting and its attendant human resource initiatives.
He said: "We are pleased to observe that in the last one year, we have become a household name all over the state and beyond. In point of fact, the number of our viewers across the world has increased exponentially particularly in Africa, Europe, the United States and Canada."
The veteran journalist, who retired from the state owned Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) confessed that the challenges before the management were huge but by dint of hard work and creativity, the station was able to connect with its viewers.
Dr. Egharevba disclosed that among the numerous programmes are News Analysis, Talk Shows, What's Trending Personality Interviews, documentaries, amongst others.
He added: Our style of presentation has continued to be unique and attractive. Many thanks to our production crew and technical operatives, who continue to work tirelessly to ensure that Providence Television International has gradually charted its way to the nerve centre of the media space in Nigeria."
The former President of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Prof. Dominic Osaghae remarked that the celebration was worthwhile, considering the fact that anniversaries are milestones which give chances to look back on achievements, growth, and impact and to look forward with renewed commitment.
Drawing parallel with Modic Medical Clinic (MMC), Benin City which he founded 30 years ago, Prof. Osaghae recalled that MMC began its journey with almost no medical devices or equipment, adding that the station has however informed, educated, entertained, and provided a platform for local content and community engagement since its inception.
Prof. Osaghae recalled: "Similarly, just a year ago, PTVI set out with only modest facilities and limited resources. I recall sharing this story with Dr. Egharevba during my maiden visit to the station, prior to its official take-off. It became clear to me then that the resilience and determination we displayed at MMC served as an inspiration for him to pursue and sustain his vision of establishing a privately-owned television station here in Benin City.
"Anniversaries are milestones that allow us to reflect on achievements, acknowledge growth, and renew commitment to greater impact. For PTVI, this is not just about one year of broadcasting - it is about one year of informing, educating, entertaining, and engaging the community. It is about providing a platform for local voices, promoting indigenous content, and addressing issues that matter to the people."
In his keynote address, human rights lawyer and former national chairman of the National Conscience Party (NCP), Dr. Osagie Obayuwana remarked that the success recorded by Providence TV by way of sound editorial judgement is a clear demonstration of how positive change be made in the lives of a people when a few creative individuals bond together.
Dr. Obayuwana chided Lagos State Government for discriminating against other Nigerians by unduly renaming streets originally in honour of Nigerians who originate outside the South West and also restricting the rights of other Nigerians, who are not from the South West.
The human rights crusader chided the President of the United States Donald Trump for being xenophobic through his Make America Great Again (MAGA) agenda and South Africans, who openly discriminate and deride fellow Africans from other countries.
More than anything else, the former NMA president emphasized that the celebration also allowed the station to share its vision and future plans for even greater impact.
