Benin GSM Village Chairman Commends Okpebholo For Security, Promises Transparent, Accountable Leadership

With a promise to run a transparent and accountable leadership during his tenure in office, Mr. Odion Jerry Igbineweka was recently sworn in as the chairman of GSM Village, Benin following a keenly contested election into the chairmanship position.
Speaking at the presentation of his Certificate of Return from the Electoral Committee Chairman, Mr. Stanley Nweke Dede, Mr. Igbineweka commended Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and his deputy, Mr. Dennis Idahosa for providing an enabling environment for business men at the GSM Village to carry out their day-to-day business activities.
The new chairman scored a total of 103 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mr. Lucky Deji who polled 55 votes.
Others who emerged winners at the poll are, Mr. Gabriel Chidi, secretary general; Endurance Itoya, treasurer (unopposed); Francis Agbonifo, financial secretary (unopposed); Amadin David, public relations officer; and Osemwengie Efosa, provost.
He noted that there is no way businesses can thrive when the lives and properties of businessmen at the village are not safe, stressing that the members will always be grateful to the governor for providing security.
Situated on Airport Road, Benin City, the GSM Village is the main hub for selling mobile phones, accessories and repairs in the Edo State capital.
Mr . Igbineweka added: "I will run an open door policy and be accountable to the members of the association. The issue of power supply from the Ossiomo Power Plant will be looked into urgently and be resolved in the best interest of all.
"We will always contribute our quota to the growth and development of the state by paying our taxes regularly for the government to carry on its ongoing projects, cutting across the length and breadth of the state."
Flanked by other members of his executive, the new chairman reiterated that the welfare of every member will be his concern just as he called on the aggrieved individuals in the association to play by the rules governing the body for the peace and progress of the GSM Village.
He urged those who could not meet up with the standard set up by the association to contest for any positions this period, should try and regularize, pointing out that more years are still ahead of them to contest and lead the association.
The Electoral Committee Chairman, Mr. Stanley Nweke Dede who, appealed to the chairman to be magnanimous in victory said that the election was free, fair and credible, reminding that he was called to serve the association and not to lord over them.
