Striking members of the Edo State branch of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) have suspended their one day strike action.

A statement in Benin by the chairman, Alhaji Baba Saliu explained that the marketers decided to suspend the strike action after separate meetings in the Edo State capital with the director of the Department of State Security (DSS),  meeting with Special Adviser on Oil and Gas, Mr. Felix Isere in Government House and the release of arrested members of the association.

Citing constant harassment of filling stations from officials of Edo State Petroleum Monitoring Taskforce under the guise of measuring their fuel pumps, Alhaji Saliu had ordered the marketers to suspend sales of all petroleum products throughout the state with effect from Tuesday May 28, 2025.

Alhaji Saliu had insisted that officials of the taskforce have no power to measure their fuel pumps, warning that any filling station that opened for business in violation of the order by the association will be fined N500,000.

He said that the members also agreed to suspend the strike following a firm promise by government to open the filling stations of members which were sealed off by the taskforce.

While thanking the marketers for heeding the strike call, the Edo IPMAN chairman disclosed that a general meeting will soon be conveyed.

Alhaji Saliu added: "I wish to thank IPMAN members for heeding the strike action notice, even though it came at a very brief notice and late in the day. There will be another meeting very soon."
