Former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole has vehemently denied ever saying that corrupt allegations against defectors, especially those from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), will be dropped by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) spoke on the theme: "Nigeria, Where Are We Going?" at the 28th Founders Day celebration Lecture of the Independent Television and Radio (ITV/ Radio), Benin City, Edo State.
Senator Oshiomhole (Edo North) said that he was quoted out of context when some years back he attempted to play on the name of a PDP defector from Esan to APC, with the surname Iluobe, which means "I don't do wrong" in his native Etsako language.
The former national chairman of APC recalled that at the occasion to welcome the said Iluobe to APC, he had jocularly told the defector to live up to the true meaning of his surname now that he had joined the APC by doing no wrong anymore.
He lamented that mischief makers twisted his innocent remark to mean that he told Iluobe and other defectors to APC that henceforth their sins will be forgiven once they crossed over to APC.
The former governor of Edo State also faulted the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for criticising the former governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and his successor, Sheriff Oborevwori for decamping to the APC.
Comrade Oshiomhole, the chairman of the Senate Committee on interior said Abubakar has no moral rectitude to chastise the Delta defectors because hopping from one party to had been is his stock in trade since 2007 when he fell out with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, during the run up to the presidential election of that year.
He slammed Atiku: "When the situation is in his favour, he (Atiku) will not complain but if it goes otherwise, it becomes an issue of discourse."
He stoutly defended President Tinubu saying that he had never used the instrumentality of state to coerce members of the opposition to join the ruling party.
He added: "Those joining are being compelled by the charismatic leadership of the presidency."
Senator Oshiomhole commended President Bola Tinubu for his courageous and bold steps taken so far in handling the nation's economy, particularly the harmonization of the parallel and official exchange rate of the dollar and other major currencies to the Naira.
He said that so many unscrupulous people made money through round tripping by sourcing for dollars through their connections with corrupt top officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) at the official rate then, which were then sold at the black market rate.
He said that like a patient with a terminal disease in an hospital ward, President Tinubu had to take drastic but painful decisions in line with the old adage which holds that no pain, no gain in order to save Nigeria economy from collapsing, adding optimistically Nigerians will soon have cause to smile.
