Worried by the upsurge of secret cult reprisal killings in Benin, Edo State, a group, Concerned Edo Ladies Tuesday November 19, 2024 called on gladiators in the war to sheath their sword and embrace peace.

Armed with placards with different inscriptions such as "Stop Killing People in the Name of Justice", "Say No to Killings in Edo", "Stop Killing Our Husbands", "Stop Killing Our Brothers", "Stop Killing Our leaders", "Stop killing Our Youths" amongst others, the women who claimed to be widows wore black attires, took to the streets of the Edo State capital to protest against the serial killings.

A joint statement by the conveners of the group, Precious Omoghan Ikponmwen and Ojo Gloria Eki, made available to  Journalists at the premises of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State council denounced the needless killings, advising the perpetrators to embrace peaceful means of resolving their differences.

Ms. Ikponmwen and Eki said the youths are the leaders of tomorrow, hence they should see themselves as such and promote what will engender peaceful co-existence and meaningful development in the state.

According to them, it is with a heavy heart that they wrote regarding the recent tragic events unfolding in Edo State, specifically the senseless killings of youths that have brought tears, sorrow and despair to victims' families.

They noted: "The youths are the hope and future of our nation and it is disheartening to witness their lives being cut short by violence and conflict.

"By encouraging peaceful coexistence, dialogue, and understanding, we can pave the way for healing and reconciliation among all parties involved.

"Let us stand together as a united community, bound by the values of peace, compassion, and respect for all individuals."
