Edo Youths Laud Obaseki, GIZ for Training in Green skills

Impressed with the new skills acquired at a 3-day camping in Benin, youths from across the 18 Local Government Area of the state have commended Governor Godwin Obaseki and GIZ for investing in the training of young Edo people with green skills that will save the environment.

The event which has as its theme, "Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World" was organized by the Ministry of Youth and Humanitarian Affairs and supported by GIZ and Romanpage Global to commemorate the International Youth Day 2023.

The youths who were taught about the problem of greenhouse gases and global warming by Mr. Victor Obaro, director of training in Business, Kushi Expert were advised to make cautious efforts to save the earth by imbibing attitudes to save the environment.

According to Mr. Obaro, “most disasters are man made and consequences of neglecting the climate. The training is to teach best technology that can prevent adverse causes on the environment and facilitate green skills.”

The over 200 youths were trained on the first day on Creative Skills; Green skills, Internet of things (IOT) in Green skills, the rise of artificial intelligence in creative industry and a presentation on the power of expressive arts therapy: Harnessing Creativity for mental health healing.

The youths were taught on attitudes to imbibe to save the environment and equipping them with best technology skills to avoid adverse effects on the environment and the rise of artificial intelligence in the creative industry by Mr. John Iyoha

A training expert, Esohe Idehen in her presentation on the power of expressive arts therapy: Harnessing Creativity for mental health healing urge the youths to always ask for help when they are depressed because according to her, “seeking help is strength.”

A University of Benin law student, Cynthia Balogun disclosed that they were taught different skills on the internet which can be used in agriculture and traffic control to avoid congestion on roads.

The participants praised the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs. Eire Ifueko Alufuhai and the ministry for provision of an enabling environment for them to learn and network with other youths from different parts of the state.

The Director of Youth, Ministry of Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Mr. Asiriuwa Victor said the turn out of the youths from across the 18 local government areas to the camp was very impressive, adding that it would not have been possible without the encouragement of the governor who has great interest in the welfare of Edo youths, Mrs. Ifueko-Alufuhai and GIZ for providing the enabling environment.
