Edo 2024: Run, Group Tells Shaibu, Threatens Court Action if He Refuses

Ahead of the 2024 governorship election in Edo State, a group, ldunwinye Landlords Association, Aruogba, Benin City has pleaded with the deputy governor, Comrade Philips Shaibu to run.

Speaking during a visit by the association, the Chairman, Comrade Samuel Igbinoba chronicled the antecedents of Comrade Shaibu from his years as a student activist at the University of Jos, member of the State and Federal Parliament, to his present position as Deputy Governor of Edo State.

The latest call comes on the heels of a recent endorsement of Comrade Shaibu by traditional rulers from the deputy governor's home senatorial district of Edo North.

Igbinoba applauded the deputy governor, a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for his unwavering loyalty to his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki and their commitment toward realizing his election mantra of Edo Great Again. 

He said: "We are pleading with you to contest for the governorship seat in 2024, otherwise,we will have no option than to go to court to compel you to contest."

The deputy governor said that as a political activist in government, he is for the service of the people and will  continue to look up to God for guidance and direction in the course of his political journey, while sustaining his quest for an egalitarian society.

Comrade Shaibu added: "I have been consistent in terms of what I want to achieve.I have always preached one thing which is love and without that, whatever we do amounts to nothing.

"I am a very quiet and gentle person, but fortunately or unfortunately, God's assignment for me is to be the way I am now. This is as a result of the oppression and injustice being meted out to the people which l cannot  stand. This has strengthen me as an activist, meaning,making the system work is my main goal.

"I am in politics for service. I - that has kept me going because I remember what my fight has been."

He said that what has kept him in politics is his desire to make people comfortable and live up to the expectations of what he wanted government to do in time past .
