With the commencement of full construction work, the Director of Museum for West Africa Art, Edo, Ms. Ore Disu has expressed hope that the pavillion will be completed by the middle of next year.
Ms Disu who disclosed this in a chat with journalists in Benin last weekend shortly after the end of a three day program said that the world class art gallery, Benin, when completed will be a home for scholars, artisans and museum practitioners in Africa.
Ms Disu remarked that the programme which has as it theme, "Open Day Forum” is a platform to foster a deeper understanding of the importance of archeology in preserving Nigeria critical legacy and share some exciting new discoveries.
She said: "We are excited to get more cultural practitioners and residents in touch with the pavilion's work, which is already proving to be a dynamic space for research, education, and community outreach."
She added that the aim of the programme is to create an awareness of the survival of artifacts in Africa and produce a gateway between the sophistication of the past lives of Africans and the dynamism of a possible future.
Speaking in the same vein, Mr. Ihenacho Philip noted that the museum will serve as a hub for arts education and the creative industries to foster contemporary African inspired art and culture for artists and artisans.
"The pavilion will be a center to assemble a cross section of exemplary African art and objects, including the world most comprehensive collection of West Africa antiquities, displaying them in their historic and social contexts and deepening scholarly understanding and public appreciation of their place in global culture.”
According to Mr. Ihenacho, when completed, the museum will inspire and serve as a model for responsible heritage management with best practices in collection, conservation, restoration and museum building globally.
The senior Archeological Adviser, Prof. Adebayo Folorunsho emphasized that with institutions like ti National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM), British Museum, Leventis Foundation, University of Oxford School of Archeology and Deutsche Archaeological Institute partnering with the Museum For West Africa Art, the pavilion, will no doubt, be a world class in the history of Africa.
