Edo 2024: Group Calls on Dr. Okundaye, Labour Party Chieftain To Join Governorship Race

Ahead of the 2024 governorship election in Edo State, a socio-political group, Edo Progressive Forum (EPF) has called on a top member of the opposition Labour Party (LP), Dr. Oghogho Okundaye to throw his hat in the ring for the governorship ticket of the party.

Speaking with journalists weekend in Benin shortly after the end of an enlarged meeting in the Edo State capital, the state coordinator, Mr. Marcus Ediale explained that the meeting was called to appraise the political situation in the  state and  fashion out way forward.

Mr. Ediale said that during deliberations,  the issue of governorship race came up and after serious discussion, the members unanimously agreed that competence, capability, exposure and ability to carry people along should be the criteria to be considered by all the political parties in chosing their candidates rather that zoning.

The coordinator declared: "When the issue of the party's potential governorship candidate was raised, EPF members agreed that LP's best bet is Dr. Okundaye and so resolved to persuade him to join the race for the 2024 election."

He said that EPF which champions the cause of good and progressive governance in the country is a non partisan socio-political group with membership dawn from within and outside Nigeria.

Mr. Erhabor Osamuyi and Isah Braimoh, the secretary and publicity secretary of the group respectively, amplified Mr. Ediale, insisting that the choice of Dr. Okundaye is strictly as a result of his pedigree.

Osamuyi and Braimoh vehemently defended the choice of Dr. Okundaye, adding that apart from his humanitarianism and generosity, his high level of intellect and exposure, some of the attributes which the next Edo State governor must possess in order to take the state to higher heights, also stand him out.

Having followed him from afar for a long time, the duo disclosed that arrangements are already in top gear to approach Dr. Okundaye and persuade him to join the race for the party's ticket.

They said: "With the likes of Dr.Okundaye who is a detribalized Nigerian as the state governor, we have no doubt that he will succeed in taking Edo State to the pinnacle of development."
